Lamar Special Report # 1 LamarDulin@Eagle1023.com

The Christmas Holiday season is on and it's evidenced by paying a trip to the department stores and the grocery stores, the malls and shopping centers.  The so called "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday" events have been a huge success and the numbers show that buying is the best in four years.  It's, no doubt, joyful to be able to give gifts and exchange pleasantries at this time of year.  Everyone seems to be more polite, forgiving and more courteous during the Christmas Holiday season.  Wouldn't it be great if it could be that way ALL the time?  The world might would be a better place in which to live. Our hope here at the Eagles Nest is to do our part in helping to spread the holiday cheer through our music and entertainment with special Christmas programs etc.  As a newsman, unfortunately, it is my job to have to tell you of some events and incidents that are not pleasant.  Would you join me this holiday season in hoping and praying that it will be a time of joy and happiness for us all and that we can escape the misfortunes that befall so many us at a time of year when we want to be happy and gleeful? Be aware of your surroundings.  Think ahead before going out alone especially in areas in which you are not familiar.  Place your purchased items or valuables out of sight when you are out shopping--like in the trunk of your car.  And by all means, lock your car and take your keys with you. And this applies to your home too.  When you leave, lock the door and don't leave the key under the doormat.  That's the first place a burglar looks. Beware of scammers.  Remember, if it is too good to be true, it probably is. Just remember, while we are trying to make this a happy time of year, there are many out there that are preying on those who are careless.  The police dockets are full everyday of what we consider petty crimes, but to those that are being affected by them, it can be devastating.  Most of us have a cell phone nowadays.  By all means if you are a victim or see crime happening, call 9-1-1 and let’s get those scumbags off the street so they cannot ruin the Christmas season for someone else. Have a joyous and safe Christmas and let us not forget "the reason for the season." Merry Christmas everyone!!

Let me get this straight right off the bat. Neither I nor Lamar Dulin is Santa Claus. Okay, okay, we’re shaped very much like him, we’re in the same age category as Santa, and should we let our beards grow, we’d probably share a distinct likeness to the jolly old elf. But, and I’m assuming something here about Lamar I’m uncertain of, neither of us have the kind of money it would take to leave all those toys all over the world. Unless, of course, we ran our operation like the federal government.  Then, when we needed money, we’d just print some more.

But, Christmas is upon us, and if you don’t believe me, just look around. All the decorations are up, have been since the Halloween decorations came down….well, except at my house. Carol and I will no doubt wait until our girls are home from college, then let them get the job done. All except the tree. Oh, they’ll decorate it and they’ll do a better job than Carol and me anyway. But the tree is my responsibility…well, getting it up anyway. We’ll make our annual trek to Parker Christmas Tree Farm in New Hope, where the girls will pick out a fine example of Leyland Cypress, about 8 feet tall, and cousin Horace and I will argue over how much it is. He, trying to give me the “relative” discount, and me, not wanting to mooch, we’ll usually settle on something “relatively” reasonable, and we’ll load it up on old Rusty(my truck) and head for home.

When we arrive the girls “head for the hills”, lest their ears hear the tree getting re-named because it won’t stand up straight in the tree holder and keeps tipping over. After a while, though, things settle down and we find a way to have it lean into one wall to keep it almost upright without most people recognizing that fact. The girls then do a magnificent job trimming the tree and we stand back and admire it. Then the spirit finally hits me and I let out with my best Ho, Ho, Ho! It’s then here the girls cast a look my way that says, “Dad, really! Keep that up and we’re asking for a new dad for Christmas”!  Oh well, Merry Christmas anyway.

WOW!  The holidays sure did creep up on us in a hurry this year and with them they brought much cooler temperatures.  Unfortunately they also brought the ending of NASCAR and high school football for the year. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving….I enjoyed my time with my family and hunting….killing my first deer of the year!  With more holidays just right around the corner I want to personally wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Britt Special Report # 5 WELR@Eagle1023.COM

I want to start with saying I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  Mine was very good.  We don’t do Thanksgiving like most people at my house.  Instead of all your traditional foods, which are good, we just ask everyone what they want for Thanksgiving dinner and that’s what we cook.  We had everything from popcorn chicken to popcorn, but we did have the traditional turkey also.  The important thing was that everyone was happy, had a good time, and we remembered what we celebrate Thanksgiving for.

I had a conversation with my mom over the Thanksgiving break that I found silly at the time but I found myself to keep thinking about it.  She said that we were rich, which we are very far from.  She said, what do rich people have that we don’t.  They have a house over their head, a bed to sleep in, heat, air conditioning which isn’t needed now but will be, water, a car, food on the table, and etc.  Then she said what meant the most to me.  She said that we have all of that and people who care about and love us and would do anything in the world for us.  Not even every rich person has that.  What I think she was saying to me is we should be happy for what we have and not always wish for more because when I think about it I have it pretty good like it is.  It could be a lot worse.

Now that Thanksgiving has passed it’s almost time for Christmas and let us all remember the reason we celebrate it.  I hope everyone has a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.  To close things out GO TIGERS! WAR EAGLE! SEC championship then national championship here we come.

I am thankful to you!  I know you might be a listener, a sponsor, or just someone who sat down to read a cool looking newsletter.  I am thankful to all because 2010 has been pretty good.  I know it has not been the best year but it has been good.  Eagle’s Nest Inc. would not be here if it were not for great listeners and better sponsors because enough have listened to what we had to offer and got out there to get the economy moving.  I do enjoy working for Eagle 102.3 because we get to bring people together and that’s what makes this fun.

I guess now is the time to think about 2011.  We are only a month away, but we are already getting ready.  In the New Year, we look forward to doubling the power on WLAG 96.9.  In addition, we will start selling Braves and NASCAR, which will start sooner than you think!  We hope that you will jump in and support all that we will do in the coming year.

I will be calling on many of you with the opportunity for you to share a little Holiday spirit with Christmas and New Years Greetings.  I always enjoy getting the staff together to cut all the greeting.  It is one of my favorite things to do, next to broadcasting football games.

And finally, football!  First, thank you to all of the High School football supporters that help make this a success.  From cheering to running the game, to the broadcast crew and the sponsors - it is a team sport.   I already look forward to next year!  I hope you took the time to listen to the final two Auburn games this season.  Because, when we get 10 to 20 years down the road, we all will be saying remember Cam   - what a player!   Just like we do with Bo!   I also want to remind all of you that have inquired about running commercials in the Auburn broadcast here, at the end of this season, to sign up early in June 2011.  This will ensure that you can be part of the next great team -WAR EAGLE!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving...We sure did. We can't believe Christmas is almost here and there is so much to be done before the end of the year....Our Christmas for Kids is in full swing...don't forget to pick up a toy while you are out shopping.  There are a lot of drop off points including the station.  Merry Christmas from all of us at Eagle Radio!
