 Special Report # 1

REFLECTING ON THE APPROACHING CHRISTMAS AND HOLIDAY SEASON,  IT TYPICALLY IS A SEASON OF JOY AND HAPPINESS.  I CAN RECALL THE DAYS OF MY CHILDHOOD (TOO MANY DAYS AGO, I'M AFRAID) WHEN THE ANTICIPATION OF SANTA'S ARRIVAL ON CHRISTMAS EVE COULDN'T GET HERE QUICK ENOUGH.  THE DAYS OF FINDING A FRESH CUT TREE THAT WAS PERFFECTLY SHAPED (THERE WERE NO  CHRISTMAS TREE FARMS BACK IN THOSE DAYS) WAS A JOURNEY IN ITSELF.  THEN CAME THE DECORATIONS ON THE TREE.  IT SEEMS LIKE WE USED THE SAME DECORATIONS EVERY YEAR INCLUDING THE ICICLES AND TRYING TO REPAIR AND REPLACE BULBS THAT HAD BURNED OUT THE YEAR BEFORE SOMETIMES BECAME A TEDIOUS CHORE CHECKING EVERY LIGHT TO SEE WHICH ONE WAS BURNED OUT. MY GRANDMOTHER, DOSHIE FULLER WHO ORIGINATED FROM THE POT ASH, ALABAMA AREA, HAD 11 LIVING CHILDREN AND WE ALL GATHERED AT HER HOME ON JUNIPER STREET  IN LA GRANGE ON CHRISTMAS EVE TO EXCHANGE GIFTS, EAT LOTS OF GOOD FOOD AND GREAT FELLOWSHIP.  IT WAS INDEED A JOYOUS TIME HAVING THE WHOLE FAMILY TOGETHER.  OF COURSE AS THE FAMILY GREW, THE FAMILY STARTED SPLINTERING OFF AND THE INDIVIDUAL FAMILIES HAD ENOUGH KIDS AND GRANDKIDS IN THEIR FAMILY TO HAVE THEIR OWN FAMILY GET-TOGETHERS AND THE GATHERING EACH CHRISTMAS DWINDLED DOWN AND AFTER THE DEATH OF MY GRANDMOTHER, THE GATHERING STOPPED ALTOGETHER.  ALTHOUGH, AS A CHILD, WAKING ON CHRISTMAS EVE TO SEE WHAT SANTA HAD LEFT FOR BEING A "GOOD LITTLE BOY" WAS EXTREMLY JOYFUL, AS AN OLDER ADULT NOW, AT 63, WHEN I LOOK BACK AT MY MOST FUN CHILDHOOD MEMORIES, THE FAMILY GET-TOGETHERS  MEAN AS MUCH TO ME AS ALL THE GOODIES SANTA LEFT.  AS YOU PAUSE THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON, TAKE THE TIME TO THINK JUST WHAT YOUR FAMILY MEANS TO YOU--THE SACRIFICES YOUR PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS MADE TO ENSURE A HAPPY CHRISTMAS FOR YOU AND THEN YOU TAKE THOSE THOUGHTS AND TURN IT INTO A TIME IN YOUR LIFE TO CELEBRATE HAVING YOUR FAMILY CLOSE BY AND LET THEM KNOW YOU LOVE THEM.  NOT ONLY WILL SHARING THAT LOVE WITH THEM MAKE THEM FEEL GOOD BUT YOU'LL FEEL GOOD TOO AND THAT'S BETTER THAN ANY MATERIAL GIFT YOU COULD GIVE ANYONE.  MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF OUR EAGLE'S NEST LISTENERS.  THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

AL Haynes Special East Al News Director Report # 2

Merry Christmas. It’s a phrase that, to me, never goes out of style. But, there are some businesses and organizations which want to change this seasonal greeting to something like “Happy Holidays” for fear of offending certain segments of the population.

I’m sorry, but this is a Christian nation, founded on Christian principles, even if many of our leaders want to convey to the world something different. If you’re offended, tough. This is One Nation, Under God and as part of our Christian beliefs, we celebrate the birth of Christ on Christmas, not on Happy Holidays. Get over it!

I have no problem with those of the Jewish Faith celebrating Hanukkah, African-Americans celebrating their recently-formed Kwanzaa celebrations, or any other faith celebrating their religiously important days….but, leave Christmas alone.

The “politically-correct” way of doing things has gone too far. I’m taking a stand. It’s time now for the “morally-correct”. Merry Christmas!

Robin Floyd Traffic Manager Special Report # 3

Hello, all . . . Robin in Traffic here!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your loved ones. We have many things to be thankful for.  A new computer has arrived, will have it up & humming before the year-end.  Wow, feels like Santa came early! ! !

Area High School Football, Troup County High School & Callaway High School Football games are now in the books . . . we were all pulling for them and they all fought a good fight.  We are very proud of all of our teams. Also, we should have info on the Auburn Bowl game in a few days, stay tuned in!

Until next time, wishing you & yours a very Merry Christmas and Health & Happiness in the New Year.

Don Strength Program Director Special Report # 4

Another great High School Football Season has come to an end and congratulations to all the area teams for another great year. Also thanks to all of our sponsors and the folks that worked so hard to get us on the air each Friday night. It takes many hours of hard work each week to produce our "Game of the Week" and these people do not get the credit they deserve. With football behind us now we turn our attention to the Christmas season with another great "Christmas Cash Give-a-Way". Stay tuned to Eagle 102.3 for the details. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays!!

Coleman Vice Account Executive Special Report # 5

Now that high school football is truly over, I have to say thank you to my Family, the teams, Sponsors and the always hard working Eagle’s Nest Inc. staff.  I know that Football is a team sport, but putting on a broadcast is one as well.  From what you hear on the air to what you never know about, it’s fun, stressful and a whole bunch of hard work.

I now know we have to buckle down and push hard to Christmas and get 2010 started off right. We still have room for you to join the Christmas Cash Giveaway.  We just finished an awesome 2009 NASCAR racing season and the Eagle’s Nest Inc. sales staff will be visiting you soon to show you the opportunity to join in on the 2010 NASCAR season that starts the first race in February.

I just would like to wrap up 2009 with one big thank you.  I know this year has been hard, but we all seem to have survived it.  In 2010 we can move from surviving to growing, so let’s do it together!

Jim Vice CEO Special Report # 7

Last month we talked about why land based radio is so very important.

If our country had serious emergency, how would you receive your information?

After the nation converted to digital TV, most households in the United States view TV by satellite.  The weakest link to reach the American People is TV by satellite. Bad weather or a Rogue Nation that would be silly enough to set off a bomb above the earth, all of the satellites would be destroyed.  That’s why we always need land based communications.  Before digital TV we had reliable TV reception over most of the United States out of the air with an antenna.  Now unless you live on a high hill or within 30 miles of a TV station you don’t receive digital TV out of the air.

You might say, I’ll use my cell phone…don’t count on it , after the hurricanes in Florida and Louisiana cell phones were out for weeks.

In a recent survey people were asked where they would go for information about an emergency and 47% said radio.

With that in mind we should always be prepared with portable radios and a good supply of batteries.  Let’s hope that emergency never happens but it never hurts to be prepared
