July. Well, if this month’s any hotter than June, I may make my vacation reservations for Nome . July is normally the direct opposite of winter in Chicago . As a matter of fact, it was (my hero) Lewis Grizzard who said, upon escaping Chicago where he wrote for the Chicago Sun-Times, that there are only two seasons in Chicago: winter and the 4th of July.

Actually, I don’t mind the heat like I used to. I don’t know if that’s the Good Lord’s way of preparing me for the “other place” or not, but the older I get, the better I seem to tolerate the heat. It’s the cold I can’t stand. I told my wife, Yes M’am, that if we have  many more winters like the last one, she may have say “good night” to me over the phone, ‘cause I may pack up for somewhere in Florida for several months out of the year.

But, we DO get to celebrate our Nation’s Independence this month, and it makes me wonder if our next Declaration of Independence will be in July, or will that come in November? I enjoy the Independence Day observances because it’s the only day I can make a churn of ice cream and eat as much as I want without feeling guilty. We’re SUPPOSED to eat a lot of homemade ice cream and watermelon on July 4th. I think it’s in the Bible….or maybe in the Declaration of Independence, and I for one, don’t want to go against either. Happy July, everyone.

June was a lot of fun.. Our first of two Six Flags Over Georgia Super Thursday's was huge. We will give away more tickets to Six Flags on the first Thursday of August so tune in! We are gearing up for another great High School and College Football Season and we are excited about the possibilities among our local schools and Auburn! Don't forget to join me each Wednesday for The Eagle Country Classic Cafe. The response has been great and I just love playing the oldies.
